Access & Transport
The Autoroute Blanche E25-A40 gives direct access to Chamonix Mt Blanc from the west, connected to the European high way network. The 15km long Mont Blanc tunnel links Chamonix to Valle d Aosta in Italy. Chamonix valley can also be reached from the north via Col des Montets and the Swiss border in Chatelard, 45 min from Martigny. Check the road conditions here!
From International Airports:
Chamonix is located 1 hour from Geneva-Cointrin airport, which is the closest airport. From there, the most convenient way to get to Chamonix is by booking an airport transfer or by renting a car.
In summertime Chamonix town and the Mont Blanc tunnel is heavily trafficked, so we recommend you to book a shared transfer or car pool. If you come to Chamonix by car and have a spare place or are looking for a lift to Chamonix, post a note on this car-sharing site.
Chamonix is also within 2,5 hours drive from Lyon-St-Exupery and Turin-Caselle International airports.
Chamonix Mont Blanc Train Station is sercived by the French railway systems, SNCF, but is also conncedte to the Swiss rail way syatem. The Swiss site SBB provides the better search results for correspondence.
Chamonix Valley Transports:
Argentiere is situated 15 min by car/bus/train up the valley from Chamonix. There are regular, free busses going from Chamonix, via Argentiere and up to Le Tour. All ski systems can be reached by these busses. The Mt Blanc Express train from St Gervais to Vallorcine also goes every 30 min through the whole valley and continuing to Martigny in Switzerland.
